Contracting

Nama Contracting is the module for companies that build. It carries a project from the estimate that wins it, through the contract that defines the work, to the monthly payment applications that turn completed work into revenue — and, on the other side of the ledger, through the subcontracts, materials, labour and plant that make the work happen.

The module has two mirrored halves. One faces the project owner: what you agreed to build and what you bill for it. The other faces your subcontractors: what you asked them to build and what you owe them. Nearly every document exists in both, and the pages below are organised the same way.

One idea governs the whole module: a contract books nothing; the extract books everything. Signing a contract — with the owner or with a subcontractor — creates no accounting entry at all. Value reaches the ledger when work is certified on an extract. Read the overview before anything else; it explains this and the vocabulary the rest of the module assumes.
